With an audience of over 1,000 attendees, both in-person and online, I was deeply honoured to deliver a keynote address at the Medical Ethics Conference last night, attended by Islamic scholars, Imams, and medical professionals.
The Chief Guest was none other than Hazrat Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani (Dāmat Barakātuhum), whose profound insights on the interface between faith and medicine were truly enlightening.
My address focused on the sensitive subject of End-of-Life care, finding the balance between seeking treatment and not prolonging suffering, while ensuring that spirituality, compassion, and dignity remain central to the care we provide.
Having been in hospital chaplaincy for over 27 years, and having supported thousands of patients and families through some of their most difficult moments, this topic is one that is especially close to my heart.
Alhamdulillah, it was a privilege to contribute to such a meaningful and much-needed discussion.
